At 9:10 a.m. a resident in East Burns Valley reported his mailbox and fire number sign were knocked over and damaged. The resident said tire tracks leading from the road to the mailbox were visible. Estimated cost of the damaged property is $500.
Thursday, July 19
At 10:53 a.m. deputies responded to a commercial vehicle accident on County Road 110. Christopher John Johnson, 47, of Minneapolis, was eastbound on the road when he began slowing to approach a T-intersection. Johnson cut the corner too short, drove into a nearby ditch and hit a stop sign. A commercial vehicle inspector also responded to the scene. The semi was towed out and able to drive away. At 1:05 p.m. deputies arrested Matthew John Spiten, 50, of Minnesota City, for violation of a domestic abuse no contact order after he texted the female with the protection order. The female said Spiten texted her shortly after he was removed from her residence the night before. Spiten said he did not read the order fully and wasn’t aware that he couldn’t text her.
Monday, July 16
At 8:30 p.m. police ticketed Issac Somaj Coley, 19, no permanent address, for shoplifting at Walmart after he took a Boost Mobile cell phone worth $286.88.
Tuesday, July 17
At 7:53 a.m. police ticketed Matthew Robert Passerotti, 28, of Waterford, Pa., for a moving violation when he ran a red light at the intersection of Highway 61 and Huff Street, causing an accident. Passerotti was northbound on Highway 61 when he ran the red light, colliding with Samantha Rose Kasa, 20, of Pine Island, Minn., who was turning onto the highway. Kasa was transported to the hospital via ambulance.
At 12:38 p.m. police responded to an accident at the intersection of Fourth and Chestnut streets. Wayne Carl Sander, 80, of Donnellson, Iowa, was southbound on Chestnut Street when he collided with Callie Annie Crouch, 22, of Winona, who was eastbound on Fourth Street. Crouch’s vehicle spun around and hit a nearby power pole. Crouch had a 2-year-old boy in the vehicle and both were transported via ambulance to Winona Health. No tickets were issued.
Wednesday, July 18
At 11:40 p.m. police arrested Mitchell Carleton Hoy, 25, of Winona, for violating a domestic abuse no contact order at Steiny’s Bar. According to the report, Hoy walked into the bar and waved at a female who had the order of protection. Hoy left the bar but when he returned he yelled something at the female. A friend said he was yelling the female’s name. Hoy said he didn’t know the female would be at the establishment.
Thursday, July 19
At 12:35 a.m. police ticketed Madeline Jane Marquardt, 20, of Mounds View, Minn., for underage consumption of alcohol and driving. Police stopped Marquardt at the corner of Third and Lafayette Streets for a broken tail light.
At 6:38 a.m. police arrested Santino Leigh Laporta, 20, Winona, at his residence, for contributing alcohol to a minor, liability for crimes of another, tampering with a motor vehicle, theft, misuse of 911 and obstruction of the legal process after a resident in Valley Oaks reported seeing someone pilfering vehicles in the complex. A 17-year-old female at Laporta’s residence was with Laporta in the neighborhood and allegedly took a small amount of change from a vehicle. The girl was ticketed with minor consumption of alcohol, violating curfew and tampering with a motor vehicle. When police arrived at Laporta’s residence, Laporta dialed 911 and said officers were at his house and that he would not come down to the station to talk. He proceeded to call two officers derogatory names. Officers found another 17-year-old female at the residence and ticketed her with minor consumption of alcohol.
At 12:39 p.m. police ticketed Issac Somaj Coley, 19, no permanent address, for shoplifting at Freedom Valu gas station at 217 Johnson Street. Coley took a carton of cigarettes worth $57.70.
Friday, July 20
At 12:37 a.m. police ticketed Nathaniel John Schneider, 19, of St. Paul, for minor consumption of alcohol and driving without a driver’s license. An officer saw Schneider weaving and crossing the center line and made a traffic stop near Sarnia and Grand streets. The officer detected the odor of alcohol and also ticketed passengers Maire Bridget McMahon, 19, of Two Harbors, Minn., and Ian Lauritz Olsen, 19, of St. Paul for minor consumption of alcohol.
At 1:08 a.m. police ticketed Adam Soczewko, 20, of Winona, for possession of drug paraphernalia. Police were responding to a report of loud fireworks near Third and Main streets when an officer saw a drug pipe in the residence.
