Robert E. Stith, age 87, of Winona, Minnesota, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Lake Winona Manor.
Robert Elden was born January 14, 1925, to Orel and Blanche (Potter) Stith in Boone Township, Hancock County, Iowa. Growing up he attended school in Kanawha, Iowa, graduating in 1942.
Robert served in the United States Air Force in WWII in the 9th Bomber Squadron.
On October 25, 1953, he was united in marriage to Shirley Bisom in Klemme, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children: Debbie, David and Kim.
Robert worked for GTE Cable Company for many years before his retirement in 1988.
He was a Master Mason in Trempealeau and continued in the Masons in Arizona.
He and his wife traveled extensively from Alaska to Arizona and points in between.
Robert enjoyed carpentry, ancestry, spending time with his family and friends. He had a wonderful gift of gab, loved sharing stories and could talk to a complete stranger, and often learn they had some connection in this unique world.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Debbie (Dan) Hentges of Fountain City, Wisconsin; David (Deb) Stith of Galesville, Wisconsin; and Kim Grote of Winona, Minnesota; grandchildren: Jennifer, Trista, Melissa, Michael, Kiley, Adam, Korey and Ben; great-grandchildren: Maggie, Olivia, Jackson, Danny, Katie, Kylar, Jayse, and Amelia; brother, Orel Stith of Fort Dodge, Iowa; other extended family and many friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, on July 27, 2008; his parents; brothers: Ross Stith, Lloyd Kilborn, John Stith; and two sisters, Dorothy Mae and Lilah Jean.
Memorial service will be Monday, July 23, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home in Winona, with Reverend Rick Iglesias presiding. Visitation will take place prior to the service starting at 5:00 p.m. At the time of the memorial service there will be a Masonic Service as well as full Military Rites presented by the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9.
