John C. Waters, age 85, of Winona, Minn., died on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at his home.
John was born on July 23, 1926, in Winona, Minn., to John J. and Della (Dahm) Waters. He was united in marriage with Elizabeth B. Banicki at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. John was a graduate of Winona Senior High School and the Stonier School at Rutgers University.
He served in the military and is a past member of the American Legion and VFW. John was also a member of St. Casimir’s Catholic Church. John spent his entire working career, over 50 years, in the banking industry. He spent the first 20 years as the examiner for the Comptroller of Currency and the balance of the time, in ownership roles of several Minnesota banks. John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Waters, Winona, Minn.; daughter, Cynthia (Norman) Knight, Mesquite, Nev.; sons, Steven (Joann) Waters, Rush City, Minn., Robert (Erin) Waters, Rush City, Minn., Kevin (Mary) Waters, Shoreview, Minn., Michael (Dawn) Waters, Wagner, S.D, and Jason (Teri) Waters, Trempealeau, Wis., sister, Janice Bauer, Tucson, Ariz., 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Warren V. Waters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church.
The Reverend Jason Kern will officiate.
Private family burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church, on Saturday, July 21, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be directed to Winona Health or to the American Heart Association.
