The musical comedy “The 25th Annual Putnam Co. Spelling Bee” will be performed July 25-29, with a 7:30 p.m. curtain nightly and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, July 29.
Director and Choreographer is Judee Brone; Musical Director, Vocals and Pit is Jessica Hosch; and Technical Director-Lights and Sound is Jeff Hosch.
Cast members include Bri Dankers, Sean Krage, Ed Stoltman, Cory Meier, Audrey Rice, Vance Dahl, Mark Roeckers, Shae Alcamo, Camie Schneider, Addi Sim, Andrew Zimmerman, Rachel Stoltman, Steve Hemmelman, Tegan Blank, Molly Corcoran-Sanders, Kennedy Kolaas, Lacey Korb and Jillian Harmenning.
Crew and set build crew are Jeff Hosch, Jason Passow, Andrew Zimmerman, Sadie Read, Nick Ebnet, Nicole Albee, Samantha Waibel, Sean Krage, Steve Hemmelman, Lacey Korb, Shae Alcamo, Addi Sim, Ed and Rachel Stoltman, and Kennedy Kolaas.
Music and lyrics are by William Finn, book by Rachel Sheinkin, and conceived by Rebecca Feldman.
The musical presents a day in the life of a junior high spelling bee competition. It is audience interactive with lots of music and fun for cast and audience. The angst of those participating is revealed through song and dance. The adult characters play a large part in the show. There is only one spelling bee winner and that is the goal for all the spellers. The musical is a winner of 9 Tony Awards in 2006, including Best Score and Musical Comedy.
Tickets are available in Winona at Midtown Foods and Hardt’s Music and Audio and in Fountain City at the Kwik Trip and Waumandee State Bank. Tickets can also be reserved by calling 608-687-7481 or they can be purchased at the door one-half hour before any performance. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under.

This is the 23rd summer musical production and the 31st production on the Fountain City Auditorium stage (an air-conditioned facility), 42 North Main Street, Fountain City, Wis., for the Fountain City River Players.
