Dr. Peter Saccio, Dartmouth College professor emeritus and renowned Shakespearean scholar and author (Shakespeare’s English Kings), will return for his eighth visit to Winona’s Great River Shakespeare Festival on Saturday, July 28.
Saccio will discuss King Lear in a talk entitled, “King Lear: Speak What We Feel” at 11:00 AM on stage in the Winona State University Performing Arts Center theatre. Admission is $20.00; tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the Festival box office (507-474-7900), or at the door.
Dr. Saccio began attending productions at GRSF in 2005, and has returned to the Festival every season since, acquiring a considerable following among local and out-of-town playgoers. His presence helps GRSF fulfill its commitment to education and community outreach, and helps the company deepen it’s connection to Shakespeare-in-performance scholarship.
“What I love about Peter’s talks are that they’re fun, accessible, and always illuminating. His love of Shakespeare’s plays is infectious, his scholarship meticulous, and his talks are wonderfully provocative,” commented Paul Barnes, GRSF Artistic Director. “Peter has been instrumental in helping provide the Festival with a national profile. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be able to welcome Dr. Saccio to Winona and to GRSF year after year.”
