Alice R. Pries, age 94, of 515 Vila Street, Winona, died Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona.
Alice Rose was born April 3, 1918, in Winona, to Frederick and Rose (Miller) Girtler. She was a lifelong area resident and on June 3, 1941, she married Harry C. Pries at St. Martinís Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona. This union was blessed with a son, James. Alice (known as Tootie to her family) devoted her life to her family, from taking care of her family and home to attending sporting events of their son, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She especially enjoyed playing cards at all the family get togethers. She was an avid reader and was known for her canned pickles. She was a member of St. Martinís Ev. Lutheran Church and also volunteered there when she was able.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Harry, Winona, Minn.; a son, James (Betty Lou) Pries, Winona; two granddaughters: Cindy (Todd) Schmidt and Jessica ďJ.P.Ē (Dan) Nissalke; five great- grandchildren: Ashley (Eric) Christie, Broc Schmidt, Paige Schmidt, Reese Nissalke, and Easton Nissalke; two sisters-in-law: Fern Girtler and Doris Girtler, both of Winona; nieces, a nephew and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Frederick, Norman and Elmer.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, at St. Martinís Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona, with Rev. Vernon Kettner officiating. Entombment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, and at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. Thursday.
Casket bearers will be Cindy Schmidt, J.P. Nissalke, Todd Schmidt, Dan Nissalke, Broc Schmidt and Eric Christie.
