The Winona League of Women Voters will hold a debate on Wednesday for candidates vying for the Winona County Board District 3 seat.
The debate will be held at 7 p.m. at Winona City Hall, 207 Lafayette Street. The hour-long event will be broadcast on live cable TV public access channels (HBCI and Charter), and all candidates are expected to attend.
Incumbent Mena Kaehler will square off against challengers Steve Jacob and Bruce Speltz. Candidates will answer questions posed by audience members and those who call in with telephone queries. The three candidates will face a primary vote on August 14, which will narrow the three to two for the November ballot.
The event is sponsored by the League of Women Voters, and cosponsored by the AAUW, Minnesota Winona Area PTAs, WSU American Democracy Project, Women’s Resource Center of Winona and Winona On-Line Democracy.
On August 1 at 7 p.m. at City Hall, Winona mayoral candidates will also debate. Candidates George Borzyskowski, Susan Hoghaug, Mark Peterson, John Anthony Skalitzky and Joyce Tlougan are expected to participate. Current city council member Debbie White initially filed for the office of mayor, but withdrew her candidacy after the deadline for removing her name from the primary ballot.
