Ashley for the Arts begins August 10 (07/25/2012)
Sometimes the road to a successful festival is paved with good intentions. With Arcadia’s picturesque Memorial Park serving as its backdrop, the fast-growing music and art fest called, “Ashley for the Arts” is staying true to its mission to support children’s charities, the American Cancer Society and other local organizations, while offering a medley of activities for all ages.

This year’s event is scheduled for Friday, August 10 and Saturday, August 11 and offers free admission to view art exhibits, hot air balloon launches, a car show and all performances, including headline music entertainment Jared Blake from NBC’s hit TV show “The Voice”, country music star Jack Ingram, and the popular American rock band Trapt.

Todd Wanek, Ashley Furniture’s President / CEO and primary driver of the event expressed, “The arts have the power to enhance society with extraordinary grace and incalculable value. Our goal with Ashley for the Arts is to entertain and inspire the entire family, promote the works of artists from across the globe, and raise funds for local charities and other community organizations. We have been extremely humbled by the positive response from all who attend the event, the hundreds of volunteers who help manage it and the people associated with the causes that benefit from the proceeds that are raised. We, as a company, are proud to have played a part in the success of Ashley for the Arts and the lives who have been touched by it.”

Since its inception in 2009, Ashley for the Arts has evolved into one of the more unique festivals in the region. Two miles of walkways link different areas of the park, subtly directing pedestrian traffic by art exhibits, two music entertainment stages, food and beverage booths, including wine from local wineries, a car show, a hot air balloon launch site, an air park (inflatable playground for adults and kids), an aquatic center, an interactive art station, kids kingdom, aerial artists (dance acrobats suspended 20 feet in the air), living statues, and much more. Featured pieces of local art and history decorate the walkways, showcasing some of the region’s most talented and heroic contributors. Saturday’s schedule includes an unforgettable fireworks show.

Running and bicycling enthusiasts and casual participants, alike, are encouraged to partake in Friday’s Pursuit of a Cure 5K Run/Walk and Miracle Mile event (benefitting the American Cancer Society) and Saturday’s Pursuit of the Arts Bike Tour Races, featuring a 10 mile and 26 mile route that weaves through the countryside of the Trempealeau River valley.

Anyone interested in participating in the run/walk, bike tour races, car show and art show are encouraged to register online at ashleyforthearts.com.

The 54-acre Memorial Park features Soldier’s Walk, which is widely recognized by its visitors as one of America’s premiere war memorials.
