It is with great sadness that the family of Mildred M. Kreckow, age 97, announces the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend on Sunday evening, July 29, 2012, at the Bronson Battle Creek Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich.
She was born November 2, 1914, in Winona, Minn., the daughter of Herman G. Elfmann and Ricka (Neitzke) Elfmann.
Mildred was a stay-at-home mother and wife for her family.
She married Ellsworth Kreckow on August 28, 1935, in Hart. Minnesota; however he passed away in July of 2002.
She is survived by her daughter: Jean A. and Richard J. Sass of Battle Creek, Mich., four grandchildren: Richard J. and Kim Sass of Battle Creek, Mich., Michael G. and Stephanie Sass of Raleigh, North Carolina, Joni L. and Jeffrey Jones of Battle Creek, Mich., Tammi A. and Thomas Lawrence of Battle Creek, Mich., nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ellsworth H. Kreckow July 22, 2002; four sisters: Henrietta Swing, Eleanore Lander, Verna Lander, and Adele Lander; two brothers: Elmer Elfmann and Herman “Butch” Elfmann Jr.
Mildred graduated from Winona High School and then attended a business college for a year.
She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Route 2, Winona, Minnesota. She enjoyed gardening and traveling throughout the United States. She came to Battle Creek in 1998 until 2003, moved back to Minnesota and eventually came to Battle Creek in 2010 to be close to her daughter and was a resident of Boschway Adult Foster Care Home for a short time.
Visitation will be held at the Martin-Myhre Funeral Home, 376 East Sarnia Street, Winona, Minn., on Friday, August 3, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. with a short family visitation from 10 a.m. until service time at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Route 2, Winona, Minn. Burial will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Wilson Township, Minn. Memorial tributes may be made to: Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 28461 County Road 12, Winona, Minn., 55987.
