Red Cross classes in August (08/05/2012)
As the summer starts to wrap up, people start to prepare their kids for going back to school. But learning isn’t just for kids! Would you know what to do if someone near you were having a heart attack, an injury, or other health related problem? American Red Cross first aid, CPR and AED classes can help teach you to be ready to respond to an emergency. The Red Cross office in Winona is offering the following classes in August:

Thursday, 9-Aug, 6 pm-9:30 pm, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED, $90—This course helps you recognize and know how to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, children, and infants. You will learn the skills you need to give immediate care to an injured or suddenly ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.

Saturday, 11-Aug, 8 am-2:30 pm, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider, $110—This course trains professional-level rescuers and healthcare workers how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over.

Monday, 13-Aug, 6 pm-9 pm, First Aid, $70—This course helps you recognize and know how to respond to first aid emergencies. You will learn the skills you need give immediate care to an injured person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.

Wed/Thur, 15/16-Aug, 6 pm-9 pm both nights, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider, $110—See Aug 11 course description.

Saturday, 18-Aug, 8 am-2pm, Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED, $110—This course helps you recognize and know how to respond to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies in adults, children, and infants. You will learn the skills you need to give immediate care to an injured or suddenly ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.

Tuesday, 21-Aug, 5 pm-9:30 pm, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider Review, $90—For those who need to re-certify, this is a shorter CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider course that briefly reviews your course information and lets you practice your skills before testing. To be eligible to participate in a review course, you must have successfully completed a prior course. You can present an American Red Cross Certificate or equivalent to verify this past experience.

Saturday, 25-Aug, 8:30 am-3:30 pm, Babysitter’s Training, $85—This class provides young potential babysitters the knowledge and skills they need to give safe and responsible care for children and infants. Students will learn the skills to be leaders; how to develop a babysitting business, how to keep themselves and others safe, how to help children behave; and the basics of child care and first aid. The recommended age for students in this course is 11-15. Students should bring a sack lunch. The Babysitter’s certificate has no expiration date.

Wed/Thur, 29/30-Aug, 6 pm-9 pm both nights, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider, $110—See Aug 11 course description.

All classes are held at the chapter building at 1660 Kraemer Drive in Winona. Certifications for the courses are valid for two years unless otherwise noted. Visit redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS for details and to register for a class. Register early—classes may be cancelled if enrollment is low in the week before the class.
