All programs, unless otherwise noted, begin at the Whitewater Valley Visitor Center (Park Office).
FRIDAY, JUNE 25
8-9:30p.m. "Winged Migration" - Explore the mystery of migration! For four years Academy Award winning producer Jacques Perrin had film crews scattered around the world literally flying with birds as they moved across land and water. Planes, gliders, helicopters and balloons were used to fly above, below in front of and alongside the birds. Bring something to eat and drink as you enjoy this most amazing 85-minute film.
SATURDAY, JUNE 26
9:30-11a.m Butterflies in the Field - Explore the world of butterflies and their habitats. Enjoy the summer meadow flowers and their attending "flying flowers@. Close focusing binoculars are recommended, but not essential. Some will be available for use. Bring transportation, as a short drive will be required.
12:30-1:30p.m. Birds, Blooms and Butterflies (Photography Demonstration) - Your approach to Birds, Blooms and Butterfly photography will be as individual as your taste in nature. Photographs, like these will provoke a response that will be as individual as your reflections of nature. We will look at vantage points and concentrate on finding the best viewpoints before the subject of choice jumps, flies, slithers or blows away with the wind. Bring you cameras and enjoy an hour with Carol Boynton, local
editor/photographer and just have fun capturing nature at its best. Meet at the Nature Store.
2:30-3:30p.m. Go in Seine at the Beach - Many small creatures live in Whitewater's cold water streams and at the beach. Come get wet and wild as we use a seine (net) to search for some of Whitewater's miniature water monsters! Find out about the interesting critters we share the swimming hole with. How does life in the stream differ from live in the beach pool? Meet at the beach.
6-7:30p.m. Bird Walk - Join us on this leisurely walk in search of Whitewater's birds, including orioles, hummingbirds, and rose-breasted grosbeaks. Families are welcome. Binoculars and bird brochures will be available. Bring transportation, as we will drive a short distance to the trailhead. These programs are provided free of charge, but state park vehicle permits are required. In addition to attending programs, you are invited to use the park's self-guided interpretive services, including visitor center exhibits and self-guided trails. See the new beaver exhibit. A number of history and nature related videos are available for free viewing in the visitor center.
