Public boat tours of the completed island restoration project in lower Navigation Pool 8 are being offered after the project dedication ceremony on Thursday, August 30, 2012.
Tours will depart from Wildcat Park about 4:15 p.m. or immediately after the ceremony, and again at 6:15 p.m. Wildcat Park is located about ½-mile south of Brownsville, Minn. on Highway 26.
The tours are free, but registration is required. To register, email Ms. Nancy Abbott Nancy_Abbott@fws.gov and provide the following information: your name, phone number, preferred departure time(s), and the number of people in your party. You may also call (608)779-2399 and provide the same information. Boat space is available to accommodate a combined total of 120 people.
Tour participants will be onboard a cruise boat from Mississippi Explorer Cruises. Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will also be onboard and explain details of the project.
The dedication ceremony for the Pool 8 Islands Phase III Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Wildcat Park.
