Rosemary Libera, age 87, of Winona, Minnesota, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona.
Rosemary was born in Mankato, Minnesota, to Ernest and Bernadine Hodapp on January 16, 1925. She was raised in Mankato with her two brothers: John (Jack) and Edward Hodapp, who are both now deceased. Rosemary graduated from Loyola High School in Mankato and received her registered nurse degree from Saint Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota. After working as a registered nurse she attended the College of Saint Teresa in Winona and received her graduate of nursing education degree in 1950. While at the College of Saint Teresa she met her future husband, Winona attorney, Harold J. Libera.
On July 1, 1950, Rosemary and Harold were married. They resided in Winona, where they began their family and their long life together. Rosemary was involved in a number of organizations including the Winona Red Cross and the Winona Country Club, where she and her husband were avid golfers. Rosemary and her husband were members of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona.
Her husband preceded her in death in 2008. Survivors include her two children: Lynn M. Libera (Michael McGarry) of Chicago, Illinois; and Stephen A. Libera (Arlene Libera) of Winona, Minnesota; four grandchildren: Courtney Libera McGarry and Mark Libera McGarry of Chicago, Illinois; and Stephanie (Libera) Duy and Carrie (Libera) Melillo of Plymouth, Minnesota; one great-grandchild, Alexis Melillo; other extended family and many friends.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, August 25, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church in Winona, with Reverend Richard Colletti presiding. Visitation will take place prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Winona.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Home and Community Options, Inc. of Winona or the Winona Red Cross.
