Community Education’s Adult Basic Education Program will offer GED preparation classes, basic skills classes and English as a Second Language classes for adults. The first session begins on September 4 and continues for 6 weeks. Registration takes place in class on the first day.
Classes meet Monday through Thursday mornings from 8:30-11:30 am; Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 1:00-3:00 pm; and Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Winona Area Learning Center, 1299 W. 3rd Street. There is no charge for the classes. Students must attend class on the first day of the session for registration and orientation. Attendance is required for the six weeks. Sessions are on-going.
The GED test will be dramatically changing January 1, 2014. The test will become computer based and the questions will be more difficult. The new test will reinforce the skills needed for college, specialized training and the workplace. Anyone who has not completed the GED test by December 31, 2013, will need to start the test all over again.
The GED preparation class covers subjects found in the GED test: writing, math, science, and social studies. Basic skills classes are for anyone who needs to brush-up on their math, reading, spelling, or writing skills. ESL classes cover the basics of the English language, including: reading, writing, grammar, American customs and culture, and citizenship.
