Ruth E. Nelson, age 85, of Goodview, Minn., died Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Lake Winona Manor, Winona, Minn.
Ruth Elaine was born October 24, 1926, in Viroqua, Wis., to Burton and Lulu (Sidie) Eckhart. On November 19, 1944, she married Elmer L. Nelson at the Norwegian Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children: Charles, Lynn Marie, James, and Sandra. Elmer preceded her in death March 27, 2009.
Ruth and Elmer owned and operated an insurance agency in Oelwein, Iowa, for 16 years and in 1974, they moved to Winona and opened the Nelson Travel Agency until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 9, Winona.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Charles) Hughson, Springfield, Ill; two sons, Charles Nelson, Stockton, Minn., and James (Diane) Nelson, Stockton, Minn., six grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; a sister, Isobel McQuiston, Hot Springs, Arkansas; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Lynn Marie; infant granddaughter Erica Nelson; and two sisters; Helen and Marilyn.
Services to remember Ruth will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Central Lutheran Church, Winona, with Rev. Michelle Rem officiating. Interment will be at God’s Acres Cemetery, Clermont, Iowa.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, and beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the church on Thursday.
