Tuesday afternoon brought two-inch hail to the area around Rollingstone, where this vehicle sustained damage.
Heavy rains and booming thunder came through Winona on Tuesday afternoon and early Wednesday morning, causing hail damage and power outages.
Winona Post delivery drivers Donna and Betsy Friesen's vehicle sustained several dents when two-inch chunks of ice fell from the sky Tuesday afternoon near her home in Rollingstone.
The Winona Public Library temporarily lost access to its catalog Wednesday after the SELCO server in Rochester lost power.
“The library itself did not experience any power outages due to the storm,” library Director Chad Ubl said. “We have a cooperative agreement with the server in Rochester and they were the ones that actually lost power.”
Southeast Technical College (MNSE) without power all day Wednesday, after the early morning storm caused three power cables to short out.
“We didn’t want to run the risk of damaging our electrical equipment if we ran at reduced voltage, so we shut all lines off while Xcel Energy crews worked on the damaged ones,” MNSE Director of Communications Erin Flaherty said.
Classes on the main campus were cancelled Wednesday and because all power was cut, servers were down, causing the website to go offline for several hours.
“Power was restored to the campus around 6:30 p.m. and we are happy to be fully operational again,” Flaherty said.
