On September 25, 2012, tens of thousands of voters will celebrate the inauguration of a new holiday - National Voter Registration Day - in a massive effort to register voters in all 50 states before Election Day.
The theme for National Voter Registration Day is simple: Register in September, make it count in November. The overarching goal of the project is to encourage voter registration and civic engagement.
National Voter Registration Days impact will be driven by partner organizations that are stepping up to play an important role in their communities by driving attention and action around voter registration, and to make this civic duty part of an everyday conversation.
The City of Winona is hosting several locations throughout the city on September 25:
Winona Senior Friendship Center, 8:00 am noon;
Valley View Towers, noon 3:00 pm;
Winona Family Community Center, noon 3:00 pm;
Winona Public Library, 2:00 6:00 pm;
St. Marys University, 11:30 am 1:00 pm and 5:00 6:30 pm.
Winona State University will also be holding a voter registration drive on campus now through Sept. 25.
All eligible voters are encouraged to pre-register to vote at any of these locations. Voter registration forms are also available at the offices of the City Clerk and the County Auditor/Treasurer. Voter Pre-registration closes on October 16. For more information contact the City Clerk at 457-8200, or the County Auditor/Treasurer, 457-8830.
