The 27th Buffalo County Historical Society Backroads Tour will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012, beginning at the Mondovi Tourist Park, working its way east through the Town of Naples. This year’s tour includes such sights as the newly expanded Mondovi Area Historical Society exhibits, Norden Lutheran Church, the Mystic Water Fiber Mill and Doug Ward’s Log Cabin Airport. The tour ending point has been changed to Norden Lutheran Church, so the route will double back a bit to end there.
This is a self-guided tour, and tour booklets will be made available that day at the Mondovi Tourist Park from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Extra brochures will be available at the Log Cabin Airport as well as at the Buffalo County Historical Society office the week following the tour.
This year’s tour end will also have a talk from Dave Mikelson, a Mondovi native, about the Mondovi-Fairchild Line that used to bring goods and people to and from Mondovi. The talk will begin at 1:00 p.m., so those who begin the tour at 10:30 should have plenty of time to finish the tour before Kelly begins speaking.
There will be lunch available to purchase from the women’s group of Norden Lutheran Church at Norden Lutheran Church. This is a great time to share memories of this year’s route with others.
Please mark your calendars now, and come with us on this wonderful drive back in time through a few of Buffalo County’s backroads and visit some of its wonderful cultural icons. If you have any questions, please contact the Buffalo County Historical Society at 608-685-6290.
