September 26

The regular monthly meeting of the Hiawatha Valley Education District Board of Directors is scheduled for Wednesday, September 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Hiawatha Valley Education District, 1410 Bundy Boulevard, Winona. October 3

Hiawatha Valley Audubon Society Bird Club of Winona will meet Wednesday, October 3, at the Winona Senior Friendship Center, 251 Main Street in Winona at 7:00 p.m. The October program presentation will feature Dan Jackson’s “Wonderful World of Damsels and Dragons”. The program starts at 7:00 p.m. sharp and is followed by a short business meeting. Programs are free and open to the public as they have been for the past 50 years.  

October 4

Cathedral’s Young At Heart group will meet on October 4, starting with a 12:10 p.m. Mass for those who wish to attend, to be followed by a lunch of meat loaf, corn, fresh fruit, roll, lemon bars and beverage. The cost is $3.00. After lunch, entertainment will be a program of lovely music. RESERVATIONS are a MUST and NONE WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE DEADLINE OCTOBER 1. Call Marge  at 454-3433 for reservations and if you need a ride. All are welcome and we look forward to seeing you there.

Overeater’s Anonymous meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. at 1717 Service Drive ( Faith Lutheran Church).

Al-Anon Family Group Thursdays, 7-8 p.m., St. Augustine Room, Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 360 Main Street. A 12-step fellowship for families of problem drinkers. 452-4445 for more information.

Addicted? Set Free! is a twelve week program to help you achieve victory over your addicting behaviors. New members are welcome any time. We meet weekly at Calvary Baptist Church, 676 W. Sarnia St., Winona,  at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings.  For more information call 452-6850. 

Celebrate Recovery meets Friday nights at Pleasant Valley Church, 1363 Homer Road, Winona. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery program. If  you are looking for encouragement, strength and hope in your life please join us. Our evenings begin at 6:00 with dinner followed by worship, large group and small group discussions. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota sponsors free support groups for families who have a relative with a mental illness.  Led by trained facilitators who also have a family member with mental illness, the support groups help families develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences.  A family support group meets in Winona at 7:00 p.m., on the second Monday of the month, at Winona Health, in the Parkview conference room, 855 Mankato Ave. For information, call Helen at 507-494-0905.

Widowed Meet & Eat meets at 11 a.m. every Monday in October at Perkins. Please call 452-1555, for information.

The Widowed Persons Social Group (Sept.) meets for breakfast every Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Country Kitchen. Dinners every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Perkins. Last special supper on Thursday, September 20, at 5:30 p.m. at Ginny’s Supper Club in Rollingstone. Carpooling from the old Econo Foods lot at 4:40 p.m. Special noon lunch Wednesday, September 26, at noon at Golden Harvest Restaurant in Utica. Carpool from Econo Foods parking lot at 11:10 a.m. All widowed people welcome. For information or if a ride is needed call 507-452-8334, 12 to 24 hours before the event.

 Do you have a loved one living with a mental illness?  If so, we provide a place for you that offers information, respect, understanding, encouragement and hope.  Meetings are the second Monday of the month from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Winona Health – Parkview Conference Room. Caregiver Support Group for Adults Age 55 & Better Group provides an opportunity to meet with other caregivers to exchange helpful tips, give and receive support, as well as learn about new resources. The group meets the 1st Wednesday of each month from 2-3 p.m. at the Elder Network office, 1756 Kraemer Drive, Suite 110, Winona.  The next Caregiver Support Group meeting will be held on October 3.
