Do you want your property taxes to go up? Then vote NO on the Voter ID bill. It is not listed on the ballot but the legislation states “The state must issue photographic identification AT NO CHARGE to an eligible voter who does not have a form of identification meeting the requirements of this section.”
Guess what- there is no “free” ID. Someone must pay for it. The state did not put any funds towards this, so a portion of it will be paid out of our property taxes. The non-partisan Center for Election Integrity and David Schultz from Hamline University researched the issue and found that counties are estimated to spend between $26.5 million to $63.6 million. Costs for Winona County with 29,307 registered voters were estimated between $148,880 to $483,859.
This is not legislation that we should support. Vote No on the Voter ID amendment!
