US Army Veteran 1987-89
Some years ago during the height of the American occupation of Iraq a friend of mine, a Winona native, Michael Benson, died while serving in the 10th Mountain Division. He had been training Iraqi men and women on how to be good policemen. He died when an insurgent ran into the police station and set off a “dynamite tuxedo.”
Sometime later there was a discussion about replacing bridges around that state after the I-35W bridge collapse. I learned that in 2015 the Interstate bridge will be replaced. I contacted at the time my Senators Norm Coleman, and Amy Klobuchar, and my St. Paul CD4 representative Betty McCollum that they should name the new bridge after Michael. I did not hear back from them. Perhaps they aren’t the ones to send that request to.
Michael Benson was influential in helping me make the decision to enlist with the U.S. Army in 1987.
So I ask you to contact your representative, Tim Walz, to grant this request. Perhaps having a multitude of people request it will make it happen. Call him at 1-877-846-9259.
