On September 12, 2012, Don Klagge and Ray Felton were both honored at the Region 1AA Awards Program for their contributions to athletics at Winona Senior High.
Ray was honored with a Distinguished Service Award for his long-time service as a PA announcer for Winona High athletics. Over the last two decades, Ray has served as an announcer for eight Winhawk sports including football, boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ swimming, and baseball. Ray prides himself on treating all visiting players and coaches with respect. Ray’s play-by-play is enjoyed by fans from the home team and the visiting team alike. Ray is certainly the “Voice of the Winhawks.”
Don Klagge was honored with the Kerwin Engelhardt Award for his outstanding service to Winona Senior High and to Region 1AA as Winona High Athletic Director from 1978-2000. Don was able to significantly grow the Winhawk athletic program during his time as Athletic Director, adding nine varsity sports and increasing student participation by 15%. Don remains active today with the Winhawk community as a key member of the Winhawk Booster Club, The Wall of Champions Committee, and the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee.
