Taxpayer - Wabasha County
There’s nepotism and then there’s what goes on at the Wabasha County seat. For starters, there’s county attorney Nordstrom. I have never met the man and could not pick him out of a lineup (although the idea has merit). He has summoned me to court not once, but twice, on a frivolous “charge” and so of course, a week before the court date he sends a letter dismissing it. On paper it increases his case stats, which may be the point of the exercise. While the attorney is definitely not supportive of the board of commissioners he’s very supportive of the sheriff. There’s a volunteer in the sheriff’s office that goes to work day after day for no salary, supplied with a desk, computer and ID badge. My workplace requires an ID badge and as an employee I’ve signed an agreement that delineates what doors I can look behind and what records I can read. As a “volunteer” she has none of these constraints, in an office filled with public and private records. Does this seem strange or improper to anyone else that the sheriff’s wife should have such free reign? The more I learn, the more convinced I am that the commissioners are a much needed breath of fresh air, uncovering dysfunction at the Wabasha county seat.
