Police are investigating the recent robbery of Perkins Restaurant on Mankato Avenue, which left the business without a cash drawer.
According to Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams, an unidentified caller contacted the restaurant around 2 a.m. Thursday and told employees to check their utility closet for burst water pipes. Williams said the employees weren’t suspicious of the phone call because of a recent incident when the roof of the attached hotel was torn open.
However, the workers found no evidence of burst water pipes and returned to the front of the store. When they returned, they saw an unidentified person running out the front door with what appeared to be the cash register drawer. Inside the drawer was an undetermined amount of cash.
Perkins employees are describing the person as 5 feet, 11 inches, with a thin build and wearing a hooded jacket. No determination of race or gender was able to be made.
