Phyllis Bernadine Malotka, age 87, of Winona, Minn., died on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at her home.
Phyllis was born on January 23, 1925, to Max and Clara (Masyga) Grochowski. On November 24, 1945, she married Eugene Malotka at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.
She was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka and worked for Winona State University until her retirement in 1990.
Phyllis loved to cook and always tried new recipes. She also loved to knit, garden and shop with her daughter. The baby afghans that she knit often were donated to the Cotter auction and the St. Stan’s Fall Festival. Quickly they became cherished gifts for many newborns.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Judy Malotka; son, Christopher (Patricia) Malotka; grandson, Scott Malotka; sisters, Maxine (Elmer) Gabrych and Mary (Stash) Brown; several nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
Her parents, Max and Clara Grochowski; husband, Eugene Malotka; and brother, Robert Grochowski, preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon on Monday, October 8, 2012, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.
Phyllis will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, on Sunday, October 7, 2012, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.. Visitation will also be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Monday, October 8, 2012, from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Scott Malotka, Steve Olson, Bryan May, Tim Brown, Jim May, and Greg Olson. The honorary pallbearer will be Mike Gabrych.
