October 17

Harvest House, a nonprofit, non-denominational organization for 50 and getting better, will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, October 17, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus Hall. Celebration of Mass will be at 1:00 p.m. with Father Paul Breza as celebrant, for those wishing to attend. There will be a business meeting.  Our speaker will be Allison Ogren, demonstrating simple exercise.  Bring a nonperishable food item for a needy family.  Lunch will be served.

October 18

Minnesota City Community Readers will meet at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, October 18, in the former Minnesota City School, 115 Iowa Street.   The selection being discussed is Abraham Verghese’  Cutting for Stone.   The public is invited, whether or not they have read the book. Verghese  recently (October 7) was the featured guest of the Talking Volumes series of the Star and Tribune book club at the Fitzgerald Theater in Mpls.  He is an advocate of doctor-patient conversation as the best approach to medical diagnosis.

October 22

Winona Area Retired Educators Association (WAREA) will hold a membership meeting on Monday, October 22, at 8:30 a.m. at Perkins in Winona. Representative Gene Pelowski is the guest speaker. October 23

The October meeting of the NorWin Lodge of the Sons of Norway will be at 7:00 p.m. October 23, at Central Lutheran Church. The Misty Mountain Boys will present a concert of Bluegrass music. The public is invited to join with the lodge members to enjoy the music and light refreshments.

October 29

Winona Dakota Unity Alliance will meet for its Annual Membership Meeting on Monday, October 29, at the Winona History Center, Wanek Hall, 2nd Floor, 160 Johnson Street, Winona.  Social gathering is at 6:30 p.m.; membership business meeting with announcement of new board members and advisory board members at 7:00 p.m.; the Dakota 38 documentary at 7:15 p.m. Refreshments will be served.  The public is invited.

The Lois Club will meet Tuesday, October 30, at 12:30 p.m. at the Country Kitchen.

Celebrate Recovery meets Friday nights at Pleasant Valley Church, 1363 Homer Road, Winona. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery program. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota sponsors free support groups for families who have a relative with a mental illness.  Led by trained facilitators who also have a family member with mental illness, the support groups help families develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences.  A family support group meets in Winona at 7:00 p.m., on the second Monday of the month, at Winona Health, in the Parkview conference room, 855 Mankato Ave. For information, call Helen at 507-494-0905.

Widowed Meet & Eat meets at 11 a.m. every Monday in October at Perkins. Please call 452-1555 for information.

The Widowed Persons Social Group (Oct.) meets for breakfast every Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Country Kitchen. Dinners every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Ground Round. Caregiver Support Group for Adults Age 55 & Better Group provides an opportunity to meet with other caregivers to exchange helpful tips, give and receive support, as well as learn about new resources. The group meets the 1st Wednesday of each month from 2-3 p.m. at the Elder Network office, 1756 Kraemer Drive, Suite 110, Winona.  The next Caregiver Support Group meeting will be held on October 3.
