I feel Senator Jeremy Miller has helped to pass some very good legislation during his time in office, but I feel he has failed us in helping to “steal” money from our school systems throughout the state by delaying payments to them. These payments are required by state law, but yet the legislature decided to defer them thus forcing the school districts to borrow money and then pay interest on it. it seems very strange to me, that they could find money to help pay for a sports stadium but not for the local schools. After all these sports stadiums actually seems just plain wrong. A private business certainly should not be eligible for state funding for an out-of-state corporation. THIS JUST PLAIN WRONG.
He should not be claiming in his campaign advertising that he helped turn around the state budget from a deficit to a surplus. It is not truly a surplus because the individual school systems (like District 861) have had to borrow money in order to cover the cost of expenses. The state legislature was derelict in its duty to not fund the school districts properly. They spent the money on different “pork barrel” projects, like the stadium instead of the schools. It was bad enough that they did such a thing without making false claims about having a budget “surplus.” I will watch how he votes on this project the next time around.
