On Monday, October 15, 2012, a Winona County Jury found Brad Lee Hajicek, 50, guilty of felony Assault with a Dangerous Weapon- Fear, misdemeanor Domestic Assault- Fear, misdemeanor
Domestic Assault - Harm, and misdemeanor Violation of a Harassment Restraining Order, following six days of trial. The jury reached its verdict after approximately two hours of deliberation.
The Honorable Jeffrey D. Thompson, Judge of District Court, entered a conviction on the top count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon-Fear and reserved adjudication of guilt on the remaining charges pending sentencing. Hajicek was taken into inunediate custody after the verdicts. Hajicek will be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. on November 14, 2012.
Winona County Attorney Karin L. Sonneman praised the hard work of Assistant Winona County Attorneys Justin A. Wesley and Nelson L. Rhodus, who successfully prosecuted the case against Hajicek.
The crimes occurred last October shortly after the Winona State University Homecoming Parade had ended. Hajicek used his vehicle as a dangerous weapon by striking his wife, who was in her vehicle with their 4-year-old grandson, at the intersection of Mill and Winona Street. Hajicek then chased his wife northbound on Huff Street, which resulted in a second crash. Hajicek got out of his vehicle and assaulted his wife by putting her in a headlock and dragging her to the ground. Hajicek only relented in his assault after the crowd used physical force to subdue him.
