I do not feel as though we have had a representative on the Winona Board of Commissioners since Mena was elected, even though I supported and voted for her.
When our unworkable new county ordinance was presented to the board for approval, she was not going to vote for it. There was a minor change made so that she would vote for it, even though many of her constituents were against it at the hearings.
When Mena was elected to two consecutive terms as chairman of the Winona County Board of Commissioners, it was the first time that this had occurred.
It seems strange that two city of Winona commissioners would elect her twice. Instead of thinking “Congrats,” I thought “OUCH.” That sounds like she sold her vote!! That may be wrong, because I have also heard that she works for the county administrator.
I am happy about one thing: Her efforts on the county curbside recycling program. I had recently been told that the city of St. Charles does not use our county curbside service; they use another independent service. They have that billing along with the county curbside service, which they don’t use (they are billed for both), so that helps pay for our share. This has been brought up to her, with no results.
