Emil Dulek, age 100, of Winona, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at his home.
Ed was born on September 22, 1912, in Winona, to John and Elenora (Buczynski) Dulek. He was united in marriage with Marianne P. Slagowski on August 10, 1943, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona.
He honorably served his country with the United States Army during World War II, and was stationed with the 743rd Tank Battalion. Ed was awarded a Purple Heart for the wounds he received on D-Day, and he participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
Ed was employed by Peerless Chain, and also worked at Walz Buick as a body man for over thirty years.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, the Athletic Club, Harvest House, and the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.
In his spare time, Ed enjoyed polishing cars, fishing, bowling, playing the slot machines at the casino, and cheering for the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. He will be especially remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Ed is lovingly survived by his wife, Marianne, Winona; sons: Bob (Judy) Dulek, Winona, Bill (Debbie) Dulek, Winona; daughter: Mary Ellen (Pat) Sheehan, Winona, daughter-in-law: Mary Kay Dulek, Rochester, Minn., grandchildren: David (Angie) Dulek; Brian Dulek, Cheryl Galewski, Lewis Dulek, Jackie (Karl) Beaver, Joe (Kc) Sheehan; Adam (Tabitha) Sheehan, great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Zachary Dulek; Cassandra Dulek, Isaac and Jacob Dulek; Haven and Tatum Dulek, Linette Zierfus; Joshua, Kaleb, and Christian Beaver, niece: Patty (Ron) Woychek, great-nephews: David Zill, Jim Zill, and Tony Prondzinski, special friends and neighbors: Pat (late Jim) Watkowski and their family, as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, John, parents, brother, Clarence, sisters: Romulda, Agnes, Eleanor, and Florence; and sisters-in-law: Grace, Rose, and Henrietta.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka, Winona, Minn. The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer officiated.
Ed was laid to rest in St. Maryís Cemetery, Winona, Minn., where the Leon J. Wetzel American Legion Post #9 provided full military honors.
Pallbearers were David Dulek, Brian Dulek, Joe Sheehan, Zachary Dulek, John Watkowski and Mike Watkowski.
