Abusive ignorance (10/24/2012)
From: John Rupkey

I see California has made it a crime to practice therapies that claim to turn gay minors into heterosexuals. After signing the bill, Governor Jerry Brown said, “These practices...will now be relegated to the dustbin of quackery.”

Unfortunately many gay persons have horror stories about the emotional and psychological abuse inflicted on them because of this quackery.

But religious inspired quackery is always based on theology, and the old time theology that gave birth to this quackery is still being taught here in Winona and is still causing significant pain and suffering among gay kids here in Winona.

Those who preach this theological trash believe they are pleasing God, and it isn’t their fault that the bitter fruit of their teaching is fear and suffering inside closets. They believe this is just what must be expected by those whose “disordered” sexual orientation doesn’t conform to the way God planned and created the human order according to the “historical” account in the story of Adam and the talking snake.

So they won’t stop preaching their garbage. In fact, they can’t stop, because they believe that when their moral conclusions were formed centuries ago they were infallible, based on their ancestors’ “inerrant” understanding of the Bible and primitive understanding of human nature.

Their moral understanding does not evolve and progress because they can’t learn.

They can’t even consider whether or not to reconsider the venomous theology that has led to this now illegal quackery and other forms of abuse against gay teens here in Winona.

This ungodly attitude isn’t just ignorant, it is hopelessly trapped ignorance.

It is abusive ignorance!

Fortunately, the people of God are still free to think for themselves.
