In the Pledge of Allegiance we proclaim that we are “one nation under God.” He is our ultimate authority! People who oppose the Marriage Amendment are saying they know better than God. It was God who instituted marriage between a man and a woman at the beginning of time. God forbade homosexual intercourse both in the Old and New Testament. His word endures forever. For a more comprehensive overview read Rev. Adam Burge’s article in the October 28th Winona Post.
Are we as a society more worried about offending others than offending God? It is not compassionate to put our stamp of approval upon something God detests. If we saw a person walking on thin ice, wouldn’t it be compassionate to warn him of danger? Or would it be better to let him drown?
God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of the rampant sin of homosexuality (sodomy). Ultimately, God will punish unrepentant sinners. Do we want to lull people into thinking their behavior is okay, only to sentence them to hell? We must speak the truth in love. We can offer hope in Christ who died to save us all and gives us power to overcome temptation.
The letter from Matthew Byrnes (Oct. 21, WP) concerning the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and the rescue of Lot is a total misinterpretation of Genesis 19. God’s wrath was upon the cities because of their wickedness and the sin of sodomy. Lot’s deliverance had nothing to do with his hospitality. He was a nephew of Abraham and a believer in God. He obeyed the angels and fled “sin city” with his family before it was destroyed.
I am a Lutheran who recently attended the MN South District Convention of LCMS. We voted overwhelmingly to support the Marriage Amendment. Our vote included a resolution that the grace of God and the Gospel of Jesus would continue to be compassionately extended to all people including those who struggle with homosexual inclinations.
Please vote “yes” on the Marriage Amendment to preserve marriage as God designed it.
