Meetings (11/05/2012)
November 4

The Houston County Historical Society will hold their annual meeting Sunday, November 4, 1:30 p.m. at 404 East Main Street, Caledonia, Minn., in the sanctuary of the former Caledonia Presbyterian Church. Two directors will be elected and the year’s activities will be reviewed. The featured speaker is Denise Rostad, daughter of Mary Rostad.

November 8

The Whitewater Joint Powers Board will meet on Thursday, November 8, at 8:30 a.m. at the Whitewater State Park Visitor’s Center, 19041 Highway 74, Altura.

The Hiawatha Valley Civil War Round Table will feature a presentation by Bill Crozier entitled: “Winona Soldiers in the Civil War, with special emphasis upon Company K .”  The meeting will be on Thursday, November 8, at 7:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson Street, Winona. All are invited, and refreshments will be served.

November 12

 The Stockton, Rollingstone, Minnesota City Watershed District will be held November 12, at 7 p.m. at the Stockton Community Center, 8600 “D” street in Stockton.

The Ruskin Study Club will meet Monday November 12, at the home of Fran Edstrom.  Susan Briggs will serve as co-hostess.   Mary Wieczorek will present her paper. The meeting will start at 1 p.m.  Members are reminded to call the hostess if unable to attend.


November 14

Harvest House, a nonprofit, non-denominational organization for 50 and getting better, will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, November 14, (PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE) at 1:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus hall.  Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. with Father Paul Breza as celebrant, for those wishing to attend. There will be a business meeting.  Our guest speaker is Mayor Jerry Miller giving a presentation on Winona.  Bring a nonperishable food item for a needy family.  Lunch will be served. There will be a sign up sheet for the catered Christmas dinner on December 19.

Winona County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will hold their regular monthly board meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, at the Ag Service Center, 400 Wilson Street, Lewiston 

Caregiver Support Group for Adults Age 55 & Better Group provides an opportunity to meet with other caregivers to exchange helpful tips, give and receive support, as well as learn about new resources. The group meets the 1st Wednesday of each month from 2-3 p.m. at the Elder Network office, 1756 Kraemer Drive, Suite 110, Winona.  The next Caregiver Support Group meeting will be held on November 7. Stepping Up is a support group for friends and relatives who again find themselves in the role of parent. The group meets twice a month to discuss a variety of topics such as: child-rearing within the context of current lifestyles, social media, socializing with peers, responsibility and authority roles. Please join us for support and discussion. When: 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month 6:00 - 7:30 pm, Central Building Room 114 (317 Market Street) Please use Northwest entrance, off the playground. Discussions will be facilitated by Jen Whetstone, LICSW Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center, Angela McQuinn, LSW Winona Area Public Schools. In the event of school closing/cancellations, group will also be canceled.

Starting the week of November 12, Peer Support Network (PSN) will be open 7 days per week. The new hours will be: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4pm-8pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-2pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5pm. PSN is located at 122 West Second St. in Winona.
