Apparently, the DNR recently conducted a survey on Jacob Family property lines just prior to elections. Not a single letter from the DNR, State of Minnesota or Winona County has been sent to me or my family about a potential property line concern. People writing letters to the editor appear to have access to information about Jacob property lines that I have not yet been made aware of. They are concerned with a new hypothetical GPS-generated property line near my house. When we built our house in 2002 the Winona County Planning Department did a site visit to check the staked out location of the proposed house. The Winona County Planning Department used the historical DNR line signs and Jacob family fence lines, that are still in place today, to approve the house site location with proper setbacks. In 2002, the Winona County Planning Department, the DNR, and the Jacob family all approved the historical lines as being the correct lines. I believe the historically monumented lines are the correct lines and my house is in full compliance. I will review the new hypothetical GPS-generated lines if and when that information is brought before me. Coincidentally, I contacted the Winona County Recorder and asked if there are any other similar problems within the county that have arisen since the new hypothetical GPS system is being used. He responded that he believes there are more than 5,000 potential property line issues. He also stated that more problems tend to occur in rugged bluff areas like the area where my family lives. I encourage people to look at the real issues in this campaign rather than at distractions from them.
