Mary Ann Wilma Boyd, age 86, of Winona, Minn., died on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at her home.
Mary Ann was born on January 20, 1926, in Winona, Minn., to Carl and Anastasia (Chelmowski) Malotke. On August 5, 1947, she was united in marriage with Symford Wilma, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church; he preceded her in death in 1956. She later married Robert Boyd on August 18, 1989, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church; he preceded her in death in 2001.
She was a graduate of Cathedral High School and also attended St. Teresa’s College. Mary Ann worked for 15 years at the Watkins Research and Development Lab and then for 24 years as a lab technician at Winona State University. Upon retirement, she received the Member Emeritus Award from the Winona State University Chemistry Department.
She was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka, where she especially loved singing with the funeral and Polish choirs and also served as a church cleaner and CCD teacher. She was a member of Harvest House, where she served as an officer and coordinated many trips, the Catholic Daughters of Americas Winona Court 191 and the Winona Flower and Garden Club. Mary Ann volunteered at St. Anne Extended Healthcare, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a board member and volunteer at Treasures Galore.
Mary Ann loved sewing, knitting, traveling with her husband, Bob, playing 500 and gardening. She will be especially remembered as a loving mother, wife, grandma and great-grandma.
Mary Ann is survived by her children, Nancy (Bernie) Wallerich, Center Valley, Penn., and Jerry (Cheryl) Wilma, Winona, Minn.; grandchildren, Chad (Allison) Wallerich, Honeybrook, Penn., Dr. Holly (Richard) Stankewicz, Coopersburg, Penn., Heather (Bryan) Lande, Altura, Minn., Bridget (Nic) Hale, Pine Island, Minn., John (Amy) Wilma, Shakopee, Minn., and Anthony Wilma, Minneapolis, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Lyndsey, Reilyn and Elyse Wallerich, Abby, Kyle and Owen Stankewicz, Colin and Justin Lande, and James Hale; nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister, Gertrude Bilder; and brother, Carl “Bud” Malotke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.
Mary Ann will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. The Catholic Daughters will meet in body at the Basilica for Mass. Pallbearers will be Mary Ann’s grandsons.
