An area farmer sustained nearly $2,500 in losses Monday morning when he found one of his cows shot in the neck.
According to the report, rural Dakota farmer Edward Bergler said the registered Red Angus cow was alive in an open pen near the roadway Sunday evening, but was found shot early Monday morning.
Bergler said the cow was shot with what appeared to be a small caliber rifle, possibly a .22 caliber.
Winona County Sheriff’s Investigator Kraig Glover said there have been several recent reports of people shooting road signs in the area, but said he is unsure if the activities are related.
No suspicious vehicles were seen and Glover said there are no suspects at this time.
