The Hiawatha Valley Audubon Society invites all interested bird watchers to join us at the Garvin Heights Lookout on Saturday, October 4 to catch the hawk migration. For those who would like to carpool, please meet at Lake Park Lodge in Winona so we can depart at 9:00 a.m. Or, feel free to drive directly to the Garvin Heights lookout. The trip is expected to last a couple of hours.
Our field trip leader, Jeff Dankert, will share his knowledge about hawks at one of the best local spots to see migrating raptors. We will most likely spot Broad-winged, Sharp-shinned and Red-tailed Hawks, Turkey Vultures, and Eagles. Jeff is known for his knowledge of local wildlife, the outdoors and environment, and is a reporter for the Winona Daily News.
The field trip is free and open to the public. For more information on the Hiawatha Valley Audubon Society and its programs, please visit the HVAS web site at
