A nearly four-hour standoff in Goodview last Wednesday afternoon caused Goodview Elementary School to be placed on lockdown while four area emergency teams staked out a residence in the 5100 block of West Ninth Street.
According to Goodview Police Chief Kent Russell, dispatch received a tip from a neighboring agency at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday of a possible hostage situation at an apartment building in the area.
With the help of Winona County Sheriff’s deputies, Winona police officers, and Winona County Emergency Response Team (ERT), Goodview officers were able to gain entry to the home.
Goodview Elementary School staff and parents were notified of the situation just after officers arrived and placed the school on emergency lockdown. Students and staff were able to exit safely at the end of the school day.
According to the report, officers and ERT members cleared the scene at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Chief Russell was not available for comment as this issue was going to press and Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand declined to comment on the situation at this time.
No injuries were reported and it’s unclear if any person was taken into custody. Any further details of the incident are not available at this time, as the case is still under investigation.
