The Winona County Historical Society’s Christmas House Tour has been a favorite holiday tradition for decades. Attendees take a self-guided tour of Winona area homes, both historic and newer, all decorated for the holidays, as well as a local church. The Tour will be Sunday, December 2 from 3 - 8 p.m.
This year the Chapel of Saint Mary of the Angels will participate as they celebrate the Centennial of Saint Mary’s University. Built in 1924-25, it originally served as the campus chapel for the College of Saint Teresa, and is still in use as a liturgical space for Cotter High School. The Chapel’s interior features various colors of imported marble, rich mosaics, and stained glass windows. Refreshments will be served in the Alverna Conference Center attached to the Chapel. The College of Saint Teresa Tea House will also be open for the tour.
Other stops for the tour will include the homes of T. Shawn and Shaune Burke, 226 E. Third St.; Ben and Joyce Johnson, 318 W. Sanborn St.; and Mike and Debbie Ellefson, 1453 Waterford Circle; Nick and Lori Edstrom, 51 W. Sarnia St.; and William and Lori Ortega, 353 Valley Oaks Dr.
Tickets are $10 for WCHS members and $12 for the public and will be available at the History Center starting November 26. Tickets include a map, house history sheet, a bag for shoes (wearing slip on shoes/boots is encouraged) and a coupon for the Museum Shop. The two Trestor Trollies will be going on the house tour this year. Tickets to ride a trolley are an additional $10 a person and will be available at the History Center for purchase with the Tour tickets. Visit www.winonahistory.org or call 507-454-2723 for more information! The Winona County History Center will be open the day of the tour from Noon - 8 p.m. and The Flutistry Ensemble will play a variety of holiday favorites at 2 p.m. at the History Center!
