The Winona County Sheriff’s Department is looking for the owner of a small, self-propelled, metal dinghy that was found floating in the main channel of the Mississippi River Thursday afternoon.
According to Sheriff Deputy Ron Ganrude, the Winona County Dive Rescue Team and Winona Fire Department were alerted of a possible overturned boat just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses in the area said they did not seeing anyone near the boat. Both agencies assisted in retrieving the craft near St. Charles Street Landing.
Ganrude said the dinghy did not appear to be overturned or show any sign of previously having occupants. He said the boat most likely came loose from a nearby dock.
Upon retrieval, law enforcement officials found no form of boater registration.
The Winona County Sheriff’s Department is in possession of the small boat and is asking anyone who might have information or could be missing their dinghy to contact their office at 507-457-6368.
