Winona city residents could see a property tax increase of 1.2 percent if the Winona City Council accepts the proposed 2013 budget and property tax levy during their meeting Monday night.
The current proposal indicates a 2013 budget of $38 million that includes funds for street reconstruction and city equipment. The proposed property tax levy is a 1.2 percent increase over 2012, with the majority of the increase coming from Port Authority projects.
The city’s portion of the property tax increase is nearly $78,000, and the Port Authority’s portion is $130,000. Part of the Port’s expanded budget includes a new payment for an airport improvement bond set to begin in 2013.
The Winona City Council has until December 28 to agree upon a budget and property tax levy.
The public hearing on the proposed budget will take place during the City Council meeting Monday, December 3, at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall.
