On Wednesday, November 28, following a three-day trial, a Winona County jury found Robert Earl Jones, 49, guilty of fifth degree criminal sexual conduct.
The Honorable Jeffrey D. Thompson entered the conviction and set Jones’ sentencing hearing for January 14, 2013. Winona County Attorney Karin L. Sonneman praised the hard work of Assistant Winona County Attorney Christina M. Davenport who successfully prosecuted the case and the work of the Winona City Police Department for its investigation of this often unreported crime.
Jones is also on probation in Winona County for first degree DWI, and he will face probation revocation proceedings at the time of his January sentencing hearing. Jones has a prior conviction for sexual assault; in 1994, Jones was found guilty by an Olmsted County jury of third degree criminal sexual conduct. The defendant remains released pending sentencing.
