I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your work to produce a fair, flavorful, and free newspaper. This appreciation has grown over a number of years, as I have deepened my connections to Winona and as I have started to raise my children here. Over the election season this year, I relied on the many contributions of letters to the editor alongside various editorials to get a feeling of who and what our local candidates stood for. As I read today’s “Postscript” and “Al Owne in the Kitchen,” both talking about aging and the joys of living, I couldn’t keep from grinning. The last lines from each piece, “As my birthday approaches, I feel it creeping up on me, like a preying panther on an unsuspecting poodle,” and “The best advice I can give folks about this is don’t store your linament in your sweater drawer,” are making me laugh so that my husband asks, “Why are you in such a good mood?” Thanks for a job well done and for making me feel a part of this community!
