The Alternative Learning Center (ALC) on West Third Street was in a modified lockdown Tuesday afternoon after a student threatened to shoot his classmates.
According to Winona Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams, the 17-year-old ALC student was arrested just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in Goodview on charges of terroristic threats, after he told several classmates that “somedays I wish I could just shoot people,” Williams reported.
When officers made contact with the juvenile, he said he thought his classmates took the comments jokingly, and said he had no intention of following through with the threats.
Students at the school were not held in classrooms during the lockdown, but were not allowed to leave or enter school grounds for the remainder of the lockdown. After the juvenile was taken into custody, the school ended the lockdown and continued classes.
