Williams, John A. (12/16/2012)
John A. Williams, 79, of Winona, died Monday, December 10, 2012, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis.

John Albert was born June 28, 1933, in Willmar, Minn., to Howard and Olive (Selin) Williams. He joined the United States Air Force and served for 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1970. He was also formerly employed at Warner Swazey (Badger Equipment) and also with the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Department of the Army, Denver, Colo. He was a member of the American Legion Post 9, Winona, Minn.

He is survived by his life partner of 42 years, Jeanette Combs, Winona; Jeanette’s children: Cheryl (Randy) Stark, Kimberly (Dennis) Ewing, and Angela Gilmore, all of Winona; eight grandchildren; many great- grandchildren; a sister, Jane Mason, Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Robert (Mary) Williams, Whidbey Island, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and Jeanette’s son-in-law, Robert Gilmore.

Services to remember John will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, with Rev. Mark Dumke officiating. Entombment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, Minn., with military burial rites provided by the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
