Once again, the Winona County Soil and Water Conservation District is holding their annual tree sale. The purpose of the tree sales program is to provide a local source for landowners wishing to plant trees and shrubs for conservation purposes. The intent of the SWCD is to not compete against local landscape nurseries, but to help fill a niche.
There are private nurseries and there is the DNR nursery that also provides trees and shrubs for conservation purposes. Most of these nurseries have minimum plant number or dollar amount requirements. The Winona Co. SWCD only has the minimum of the bundle sizes available of 25 or 50 plants.
If you are looking for 25, 50, 100… trees and shrubs for Farmstead Shelterbelts, Living Snow Fences, Wildlife Habitat, Reforestation… take a look at our tree order and see if there is something you’re interested in. We are taking orders now, payment required at time of order, and the trees become available for handout about the second week of April. This sale has limited quantities and all orders are on a first come-first serve basis.
The order form is available at the District’s website at www.winonaswcd.org. To receive an order form by mail, please contact the SWCD Office at (507) 523-2171 ext. 3 or stop in at 400 Wilson Street, Lewiston.
