An 80-wheeler needed for this job (12/19/2012)

Eighty tires. Five hundred and fifty thousand pounds of equipment. Two huge composite presses arrived at Rich Mikrutís McConnon Drive property earlier this week via train, and the semitrailer needed to haul them to Composite Products, Inc., was one of the biggest ever seen on Winona streets. The two presses, each weighing in at 275,000 pounds, are part of a Composite Products expansion, and getting them to their destination required a lot of careful maneuvering and planning. After the train arrived with the equipment from Michigan, powerful jacks called gantries were used to lift the presses and load them on the semitrailer. The 10-axle truck has eight tires per axle, and several Winona streets had to be closed in order to accommodate them.
