A jazz quartet including world-renowned clarinetist Evan Christopher will perform during the Frozen River Film Festival in Winona. The Frozen River Film Festival runs from January 23rd – 27th. Evan Christopher was part of the Grammy Award Winning album Book 1 by the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. On January 25, 2013, Christopher will be joined by Dr. Richard MacDonald on percussion, Rick Carlson on piano and Steve Pikal on bass to bring an exceptional evening of jazz to the Frozen River Film Festival.
Over the past couple of years Christopher has been a featured jazz performer at Minnesota Orchestra Hall, has featured prominently at Carnegie Hall as recently as this past October with New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. He also appears frequently in New Orleans as the leader of several ensembles.
He is very excited to be appearing in Winona as the featured performer in the Winona’s third annual New Orleans Jazz Artist Series, hosted by the renowned Frozen River Film Festival in partnership with the Friends of Jazz!
To kick off the evening, the Winona State University combo, Bopaganda, will perform. Bopaganda is made up of Winona State University students who are enrolled in the jazz combo course. The evening of jazz will be held at the Winona State University Performing Art Center at 7:30 p.m. on January 25, 2013. Tickets for the event can be purchased for $15 at www.frff.org today. In January, tickets will be available at Chapter 2 books located in downtown Winona at 121 W. Third Street.
