A thankful Winona City Council bid farewell to longtime Mayor Jerry Miller Monday evening, and presented him with a plaque in honor of his 16 years of civic service.
I appreciate all those on the council that I have worked with throughout the years, and it is because of the effort of all the staff members that we are here today, Miller said. I am serious when I say I appreciate the way we were able to work together and that is what got things done. I want to also thank the people of Winona for allowing me to be of service for all these years.
Miller, owner of Miller Scrap Iron Company, said his proudest accomplishment as mayor was keeping the city of Winona fiscally responsible.
The council also said goodbye to At-Large Council Member Debbie White, who is leaving her seat after eight years.
We also want to thank you, Debbie, for the time and effort that you put into your job for the last eight years, said Winona City Manager Judy Bodway.
Mayor-elect Mark Peterson and At-Large Council Member-elect Paul Double will assume their duties on the council at the January 7, 2013, city council meeting.
