On Saturday, January 12th, the National Eagle Center (NEC) is offering a unique opportunity to see wild bald eagles on a guided field trip led by expert birder and NEC Education Director Scott Mehus. On this trip, participants will see wild eagles and bald eagle nests along the river and learn more about bald eagles in this area.
Large numbers of bald eagles can be seen along the Mississippi River near Wabasha, MN. Bald eagles from hundreds of miles away congregate in the winter months to take advantage of the abundant food resources from the open water near Wabasha. On a bald eagle field trip, participants will have the chance to see firsthand the remarkable recovery these once endangered birds have made. Field trips are an excellent opportunity to photograph these majestic birds in the wild. A complete schedule of upcoming field trips available at www.nationaleaglecenter.org.
The cost is $25 for NEC members ($35 for non-members) and includes daily admission to the National Eagle Center and transportation via coach bus. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and bring their own binoculars, spotting scopes or camera. Extra binoculars and spotting scopes will be available. Field trips conclude at the National Eagle Center with warm refreshments and a chance for further discussion. Space is limited.
